A QUICK ROUND 1 BREAKDOWN

Well, in a span of one week, Delaware County went from 24 boys basketball teams to 13. And Friday, that number was trimmed to five.

First-round games of the District One Class AAAA bracket ended the seasons of seven teams, and a few game-changing players.

High-scoring guards Shawn Church and Christian Irons are gone, their Ridley and Interboro squads respectively bowing out. Defensive stud Raheem Harvey's career is over, with Glen Mills getting cast aside. Three-point threat Alex Graham's season came to a close before Penncrest even took the floor against Lower Merion, when the senior broke his ankle in a practice this week.

Marple Newtown, Springfield and Upper Darby also capped their seasons in district play.

Now, the hopes of a lengthy postseason run rest in the hands of five Delco programs: top-seeded Chester and No. 14 Penn Wood coasted in their Class AAAA openers, while Archbishop Carroll advanced to the Catholic League semifinals and locked up a PIAA playoff berth. Delco Christian and Sun Valley are awaiting the starts to the Class A and AAA brackets, respectively.
